Franklin House

A Year in Review

As we approach the end of an incredible academic year at Queens' School, it is the perfect time to look back at everything our fantastic students have achieved. Throughout the year, Franklin House students have truly embodied our core values of Scholarship, Tenacity, Altruism, and Respect. From the classroom to the clubs and competitions, their consistency, integrity, and hard work have shone through.

Academic Excellence: Leading with Attitude!

We are incredibly proud of the collective commitment to excellence our students have shown in their attitudes to learning this year. Our hard work has yielded fantastic results:

  • Lowest Negative Points: Franklin House achieved the lowest negative points in the school with just 16,074.
  • Superstar Star Points: Massive congratulations to Year 7 for securing the most STAR points with an amazing 23,987 points.
  • Top Form Group: Huge respect to 7FX, who led the entire House with a staggering 13,428 STAR points.
  • Robert Brown Trophy Standings: We are currently sitting in a strong second place with 228 points, closely chasing down Attenborough's 234 points. Let's give it one final push!
  • The House Cup Standing: We are currently sitting in third place with 2,364 participation points and 866 competition points – totalling 3,230 points overall. With Sports Day ahead, anything is possible!
Looking Back: The Year 7 Residential Trip

One of the absolute highlights of this year was our Year 7 residential trip to PGL on the Isle of Wight. It was fantastic to see our youngest students push themselves out of their comfort zones, conquer new challenges, build lasting friendships, and show incredible teamwork. The resilience and house spirit they developed have brought immense positive energy back to our school community.

Looking Forward: Sports Day 2026

The most anticipated event of the summer term is just around the corner! Sports Day 2026 will take place on Thursday 16th July at Woodside Stadium.

Why Every Single Point Counts

  • Every Place Matters: Last year, Franklin House won the entire competition by a microscopic 4.5 points out of roughly 3,000 total points given.
  • Maximum Participation: We won because we were consistent and ensured we had 2 students fill every single event.
  • Consistency Wins: Remember that 1 last place still earns 1 valuable point for the house, but leaving a slot empty earns no points. Success is not coincidental—it is earned by our collective effort!

Introducing Our New Franklin House Captains (2026/2027)

We are proud to introduce the student leadership team who will be guiding Franklin House into the next academic year:

Seacole House

It has been another fantastic term for Seacole House, with so much to celebrate across our community.

We are incredibly proud of the generosity shown by our students and families through our recent fundraising efforts in support of Watford General Hospital. Thanks to everyone's kindness and commitment, we have been able to make a positive contribution to such an important local cause. A huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported this initiative. It is a wonderful reflection of the caring values that define Seacole House.

As we come to the end of the year, we would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our outgoing House Captains: Charlotte, Alex, Iona, Gabriella, Pari, Charlotte and Chloe. They have represented Seacole House with enthusiasm, dedication and pride throughout the year, supporting events, encouraging participation and serving as excellent role models for younger students. We are incredibly grateful for everything they have contributed and wish them every success in the future.

It has been a hugely successful term in House sport, with Seacole students demonstrating outstanding teamwork, determination and House spirit. We have loved taking part in cricket, rounders, football and many other sporting competitions, celebrating not only some fantastic victories but also the resilience, encouragement and sportsmanship shown by all our students. It has been wonderful to see so many students getting involved and supporting one another.

Our successes haven't been limited to the sports field. We were also delighted to finish second in the House Maths Competition, with students demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills, resilience and teamwork throughout the challenge. It was fantastic to see so many students embracing the competition with enthusiasm and enjoying the opportunity to put their mathematical thinking to the test. Well done to everyone who took part and helped secure another brilliant result for Seacole House!

Special congratulations go to George, who has been selected as the winner of the Seacole House Altruism (Kindness) Challenge. George has consistently demonstrated kindness, maturity and respect towards others. He is always polite, follows expectations and helps create a positive learning environment by encouraging others to do the right thing. George regularly goes out of his way to support his peers, often helping students with laptops and technical issues without ever being asked. His willingness to help others, combined with the excellent example he sets every day, makes him a truly deserving winner. Congratulations, George, and thank you for embodying the values of Seacole House so brilliantly.

We also want to celebrate our Year 7 students, who have had an incredible week on their residential visit to the Isle of Wight with PGL. They embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and courage, enjoying activities including kayaking, survival skills, archery, fencing, aeroball and campfire evenings. The trip has been a fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence, develop new friendships and create lasting memories. We are so proud of the way they represented Seacole House throughout the week.

Miss Hall also thoroughly enjoyed meeting our soon-to-be Year 7 students during their Transition Day. It was wonderful to begin getting to know the newest members of Seacole House, and she is especially excited to hear that we will be welcoming so many talented musicians, impressive sportspeople and, most importantly, such kind, thoughtful and wonderful young people into our House community in September. We can't wait for them to become part of the Seacole family.

As we look ahead, excitement is building for Sports Day on Thursday, where we know Seacole students will once again show their determination, teamwork and House pride.

Finally, we are delighted to welcome our new House Captains for the coming year: Matilda, Sofia, Rhea, Abbie, Charlie, Sahasra, Freddie and Jasmine. We are excited to work alongside this fantastic team and are looking forward to another successful year full of opportunities, achievements and continued House spirit.

Well done to everyone in Seacole House for another brilliant year. Thank you for your enthusiasm, kindness and commitment—you continue to make Seacole House a community we are all proud to be part of. We hope everyone has a wonderful, safe and well-deserved summer break, and we look forward to another fantastic year together in September!

Turing House

What an exceptional academic year it has been for Turing House! We have celebrated success across a wide range of events, from sports and faculty competitions to unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime trips. A defining highlight of the year was undoubtedly our massive house music win, which truly showed what Turing is capable of. Every single student has played a part in this year's success, contributing through their enthusiasm, commitment, and respect for one another.

House Sports

First and foremost, massive congratulations to all of our students, your involvement and enthusiasm throughout the academic year have been nothing short of exceptional. The incredibly high standard you’ve set has genuinely impressed me, and I fully expect us to carry this fantastic momentum straight into next year.

As we look back on a year packed with unforgettable memories, I also want to extend a huge thank you to our fantastic house staff and form tutors whose unwavering support makes all of our achievements possible.

Looking ahead, we have one final hurdle: Sports Day is just around the corner! This is our final, exciting opportunity to bring home another win. Let’s give it absolutely everything we’ve got, cross the finish line together, and finish the year on the ultimate high. Have a wonderful, safe, and well-deserved summer break when it arrives, but first, let's win this!

Charity Campaigns

Our charity initiatives have reached incredible heights this year, with many of our most successful events perfectly timed alongside key school milestones, such as the Valentine’s Fair. Through these efforts, we have raised a fantastic sum for Pancreatic Cancer UK. I am immensely proud of our Charity Prefects, as well as our Arts and Charity Representatives. Their boundless creativity and proactive leadership have been the true driving force behind this year's fundraising triumphs.

Turing Year 7 Isle of Wight Residential Trip

Without a doubt, one of the absolute highlights of the year for our Year 7 students was the unforgettable Isle of Wight trip during Enrichment Week, packed with a fantastic range of activities, including the Trapeze, Aeroball, survival challenges, and team problem-solving. There really was something to spark everyone's interest. A particularly wonderful aspect of the trip was the absence of mobile phones, which encouraged students to embrace genuine, face-to-face interactions and allowed new friendships to truly blossom. Their behaviour throughout the week was exemplary, making it an absolute privilege to lead such a brilliant group. The staff could not be prouder of how beautifully they represented our school and supported one another, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Final Message

As this remarkable year draws to a close, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to every single student who has helped make Turing House such a vibrant and essential part of the Queens' School community. Whether you stood in the spotlight, participated from the sidelines, or worked tirelessly behind the scenes, you have all contributed to something truly extraordinary this year, and I could not be prouder of what we have achieved together.

A special mention must go to my incredible prefect team. Your dedication, outstanding leadership, and unwavering support have been absolutely pivotal in bringing so many fantastic events and opportunities to life for our students. You have led by example at every turn, and your hard work has not gone unnoticed.

I wish you all a fantastic and thoroughly-deserved summer break. Take this time to relax, recharge, and return next year ready to push boundaries, aim higher, and win it all. Turing House is just getting started!

Kind regards,
Mr Patel

Attenborough House

Attenborough has had an amazingly busy year with lots of fundraising, sports competitions and House competitions.

Charity

We have raised £1,734 for charity this year, split between Attenborough’s nominated charities, Cancer Research UK and Way to the Nations, and the last couple of events of the year raised £200 for “Vine Trust” who provide medical boats travelling around isolated communities in Tanzania and the Amazon which have limited or no health care.

This total has been raised through events like our Halloween Fair, Christmas Fair, Valentines Fair, Staff v Students Basketball Competition and through the Christmas Chocolate Hamper Raffle, Easter Chocolate Hamper Raffle won by Elizabeth in Year 7 and a special thank you to "Sweet Trees" who donated the huge Easter Egg. This is to name a few of our charity events. More recently, we held the animal-themed Scavenger Hunt to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, which was a really fun competition won by Rayan. These fundraising events are organised by our fantastic Charity Committee, House Captains and Prefects, who work so hard organising and running these events throughout the year.

As joint Houses, we also collected donations for Watford Foodbank, donating a massive 116.5kg of food. A huge shout-out to 8SW and Ms Joshi, who raised £60 in cash and brought a further £50 in food for the foodbank. Thank you to everyone who donated and to the amazing Foodbank volunteers that do such wonderful work.

Student Leadership

A huge thank you to my wonderful House Captains and Prefects 25–26 Team who have done an amazing job with all our Charity Events and House Competitions. It's been wonderful working with you and a special shout out to Aashni, Bethany and Siena, who have gone above and beyond.

Which leads me to welcoming our new 26–27 House Captains. I am so pleased to announce our new Attenborough House Captains and Prefects: Congratulations to Gunes and Olivia House Captains, Lily and Ronnie Charity Prefects, Henry and Phoebe Sports Prefects, Pamela and Fifi Arts Prefects – I am really looking forward to working with them over the next year. I would also like to offer special congratulations to Attenborough’s own Will, who was nominated Deputy Head Student. They have all already picked up the baton, starting their leadership with a hugely successful Open Evening where they represented our school wonderfully.

House Music

House Music was a hugely successful evening and so much work and effort was put into this by Mr Penhaligon, our wonderful Music Department and our House competitors, with months of planning and rehearsals. A special mention to Aashni, Bethany and Siena, our outgoing House Captains, who gave so much of their time to planning the show and running the rehearsals.  This year the performances were amazing and Attenborough House impressed me so much with their endless talent. We won Best Choir, and Holly won Junior Soloist with truly spectacular performances. Congratulations to our students!

House Sports

We have had another successful year with House Sports Competitions with full teams for every event. Well done to the following teams for winning their events – Y11 Boys Basketball, Y7 Boys Football, Y8 Girls Basketball, Y9 Girls Basketball, Y7 Girls Netball, Y8 Girls Football, Y8 Boys Football, Y13 Boys Football, Y8 Rounders, Y9 Rounders and Y7 Rounders.  We end the year in first place in the House Sports competition through our student’s tenacity and commitment to our House and their teams. Congratulations Attenborough, let's hope we can keep this winning streak up for Sports Day and hopefully claim the Robert Brown Trophy back again.

Year 7 Residential Trip

We are just about to set off for our annual Year 7 residential trip. This year we are looking forward to going to PGL on the Isle of Wight. I would like to pre-thank our wonderful staff team Mrs Estell, Miss Mistry and Miss Hawley for giving up so much of their time to making our trip such a memorable experience for the students. Do follow us on X to see how much fun the Year 7’s are having.

Leavers

And finally, from Attenborough I would like to say goodbye to the Y11’s and Y13’s who have just sat their exams, we wish you lots of luck with your results and with all your future endeavours. We hope to see you again either in Sixth Form or coming back to visit.

Wishing everyone a happy and safe summer holiday from Attenborough House and Ms Thomas.
