European Week of Languages

This year the MFL department has organised some exciting events to promote languages and cultures at Queens’.

The House assemblies throughout the week were aimed at celebrating the lives of David Attenborough, Alan Turing, Mary Seacole and Rosalind Franklin. They all helped humankind to progress thanks to their unique talent and desire to go beyondtheir own culture and language.

During the week, there were three events that involved the whole school.

On Monday staff and 6th formers performed in a very vibrant karaoke club in the northhall. Students and staff sang in Serbian, Italian, French, English and Japanese! A big well done, particularly to the 6th formers for singing in a foreign language.

On Tuesday the Library hosted a languages fair event: 6th formers led six different language taster sessions for KS3 students. They offered Welsh, Bulgarian, Polish, Russian, Italian and Romanian!

Finally, on Friday KS3 students went to the cinema club at lunchtime. Students (and some staff too!) came to watch “Coco”, a film teaching about the traditions of the Day of the Dead in Mexico.
