Computer Science - October Newsletter

Welcome to our October Newsletter
Thank you!

Thank you to the kind parents who have donated via the Amazon Wish List. We are very grateful to have received two leaflet holders, which we are using to display our ‘Challenges’. Now if students have a free moment, they can pick up a fun and engaging challenge to help their computational skills.

We have also received two micro:bit robots which we will be using soon in our after-school club. Our new Micro:bit module comes online in the Spring term so this gives the teacher
time to learn how to use the robots!

We also have to say a big THANK YOU to the QPA who have agreed to fund the purchase of headphones. These contributions make a huge difference in our lessons and we are very grateful.

Bebras Competition

We are looking forward to this year’s Bebras competition which is all about computational thinking. As previously all KS3 students will take part. GCSE and A Level Computer Scientists have taken part. However, this year we are extending the invitation to participate to all KS4 and KS5 non-Computer
Science students. Why should they miss out on the fun!

Key Stage 3

This half-term Year 7 have been given essential ICT induction training, and are now working on a Scratch (block programming) module.

Year 8 are having great fun making games using The Games Factory – and learning fundamental programming principles by stealth!

Year 9 have started the year with the Cyber Security module and will move onto Python coding.

Key Stage 4

Our Year 10 and 11 GCSE girls have been on a day trip to Visa for their annual Ada Lovelace event.

Year 10 have finished their module on Systems Architecture and are now studying Data Representation.

Year 11 are just finishing their last module and will be moving on to structured revision.

Key Stage 5

Year 12 have settled into their A level studies, having covered Components of a Computer and Software Development.

Year 13 have now completed the Scheme of Work and are moving into a structured revision phase. They have their second mock exam straight after half-term which is important as it is their last opportunity to improve their UCAS prediction.
