Welcome to the Careers February 2026 Newsletter
Queen’s Alumni Careers Fair

At the end of last term, we were delighted to host our Queen’s Alumni Careers Fair, where Year 10 and Year 12 students participated in a series of ‘speed careers’ sessions with former students. Alumni representing a wide range of industries, including Finance, Healthcare, and PR and Marketing, shared valuable insights into their professions, discussing what a typical working day looks like and the pathways into their industries. Current university students also attended, offering practical advice on applications and sharing their experiences of campus life. Our alumni thoroughly enjoyed returning to school, taking part in a tour and reconnecting over breakfast and lunch while sharing fond school memories.

Sky Studios Elstree

This half term has already begun with a busy schedule of career activities. During the first two days back after Christmas, two Year 7 form groups visited SKY Studios Elstree to film pitches they had developed during lessons. Students explored a wide range of career roles, taking on responsibilities as directors, actors, stylists, producers and sound technicians to create their own films. They also enjoyed a guided tour of the studios and had the opportunity to sit in the screening room to watch trailers. Visits for the remaining Year 7 students are now booked through to June.

RAF Northolt Meteorology Centre

A group of Year 9 students recently visited the RAF Northolt Meteorology Centre, where they participated in exciting hands-on activities. Students collected and measured weather data and uploaded their findings to an online platform. Working in small teams, they prepared weather summaries as if presenting on television, with one group delivering their forecast to the wider group. Students also received a tour of the base and an introduction to careers within the RAF, including roles in the control tower, which generated many thoughtful questions.

Tristian Morrison talk

Our Sixth Form students recently attended an inspiring talk from Tristian Morrison, a former police officer who received a bravery award and is now a successful entrepreneur and founder of Open Door Closed Door. Students were captivated by his powerful stories about his career journey and how his experiences led him to establish his own business. His key message reminded students that career paths are rarely linear and that changing direction can often lead to new and exciting opportunities.

National Apprenticeship Week

Students across the school have been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by taking part in tutor-led challenges and activities. Throughout the week, students attended assemblies delivered by guest speakers from Hertfordshire Police, Amazon and Computacenter. These sessions provided valuable information about apprenticeship pathways, levels of study and the wide variety of industries offering apprenticeship opportunities.

And more........

Preparations are also underway for the Year 8 Drop Down Day, which will feature the Young Green Briton Challenge on 13 March.

Our ‘My Path – Job of the Week’ feature continues to be shared with all year groups via Google Classroom, showcasing a broad range of career roles and outlining the pathways into each profession. Students also continue to make effective use of Unifrog, which supports career exploration and research, while providing access to a wide range of opportunities, events and progression routes.
