Art Spring Term 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the Art Spring Term 2026 Newsletter

It has been another intense half term in the Art Department. The Art and Photography students in Year 13 have been busy developing ideas for their Component 2 Externally Set Assessment worth 40% of their A level qualification.  The exam theme ‘Origins’ has prompted varied and individual project concepts across the groups. From investigations of cocoons and protective spaces, inspired by embryonic development to understanding people’s deep alignment with nature and the act of being creative. It is the privilege of A level teaching to be part of these conversations with students about their ideas and practical outcomes. Well done Year 13, it’s the final push before the A level Art and Photography exam on Friday 1st, Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th May.

Please come to the A level exhibition on Wednesday 17th June in the Sixth Form Study Centre to see some fantastic art work.

The GCSE art students are making equally good progress with their ideas in response to the exam theme ‘Found’. Keep going everyone.  The GCSE Art exam is on 22nd and 23rd April.

Visiting live art work fuels the fire of art teachers and helps us to facilitate more conceptually challenging and ambitious student outcomes.  We were able to do this on a recent teacher's twilight trip to the Hayward Gallery in London to view the Chiharu Shiota: Threads of Life and Yin Xiuzhen: Heart to Heart exhibition. This is the best sort of professional development for art teachers as it allows us the time to be creatively curious and open to exploring new ideas and connections.

Art Club continues to produce energetic and creative outcomes.  These are a selection of recent prints created using cling film, ink and rollers.

Have a great holiday
