News for the Art Department
This has been a very intense half term with the GCSE and A level Art and Photography exams in the first four weeks. Well done to the students for managing this sustained focus. Two of our candidates had 30 hours of exam time as they study both Art and Photography. The art team is busy assessing work against the exam board standard and there are some fantastic outcomes. An opportunity to see this high standard will be at the A level exhibition on Wednesday 17th June 5-7pm in the Sixth Form Study Centre. We shall also show a selection of GCSE work at the Creative Arts showcase on Thursday 2nd July in Swift Hall. We hope to see you there.
We did manage to squeeze in a trip into the Henry Moore Studios and Sculpture Gardens with our year 10 GCSE students. It was quite eventful with the erratic weather we have experienced recently but thankfully we managed the outdoor tour before the rain and wind set in and a tree came down! The sculpture gardens display over 20 of Moore's world-famous, monumental sculptures, showcasing his work as he intended, against the landscape he shaped. The students learnt about the life of Moore, the recurring themes in his work and produced some exciting sketches that can be used in their GCSE portfolios. There is currently a landmark exhibition of Moore’s work across Kew Gardens, 9 May 2026 - 31 January 2027. This would make a brilliant day out if you have any time during the holidays.

The students' behaviour was exemplary on the trip. Thank you for making this such an enjoyable day out. Thank you also to Mrs Davies and Mr Lewis for driving the mini buses and to Ms Lynch for accompanying the trip.
