Resiliently Revising

GCSE and A-Level exams are now well underway. We are incredibly proud of all the hard work and tenacity displayed by our students in the run-up to these exams, especially those who have been attending our revision lessons both online and in school.

Our revision sessions on the evening before the GCSE exams have proved especially popular, and we will continue to run these throughout the exam period. Please feel free to join us on Wednesday 20th May and Thursday 4th June at 5pm. The code is Englishrevision.

We are also pleased to announce that, in order to support our Year 10 students with the new EDUQAS poetry anthology, we have created a special revision website for them. This can be found in the ‘Revision Resources’ section of the Queens’ website. You will find everything you could possibly want to know there, from example answers and
exam questions to key quotations and revision videos.

Vocabulous

Our Year 7 students are continuing to storm ahead with our Vocabulous programme, which teaches them how to recognise word roots and independently work out the meanings of unfamiliar words through their morphology.
Congratulations to 7TM, who remain in the lead, closely followed by 7AB. There are now only a matter of weeks before the final winning form is announced, so keep going, Year 7!

Speaking and Listening

Year 10 students are currently working hard on their GCSE Speaking and Listening assessments and will be performing just after half term. It is already looking as though there will be some impressive speeches on a whole host of fascinating topics, and we have all been incredibly impressed by their hard work and articulacy.

Rapacious Readers

This year has seen an unprecedented number of book reviews submitted, and we are delighted that the National Year of Reading has inspired such enthusiasm for all things literary. We have already received nearly 5,000 responses!
Congratulations once again to 7TM for submitting the most reviews as a form, and to Saloni Amin for submitting the most reviews as an individual.

Every month, the English department offers a KS3 and adult ‘Recommended Read of the Month’. You will find our recommendations for May below.
