Welcome to the PE Department Newsletter - it's been a busy half-term!

Boys Football

Year 8 Boys Football

The year 8 boys have come to the end of their season and have secured the District League title. A good run of winning all games but one to end the league season. Still involved in the quarter finals plate cup competition and will be looking to get their hands on a double trophy this year. Well done Boys - what a positive season so far and can get even better. Congratulations!

Basketball

Year 8 Boys Basketball

The boys have had a really positive start to the season, winning their first two games against The Grange and St Michaels  (32-10 & 41-16). They have made a lot of progress from last year and fingers crossed they can keep it up and the season will be a really positive season.

Year 10 Boys Basketball

On a roll at the moment for the Year 10 boys are yet to lose a game in both district and county competitions. They are looking good in the District league this year with them cruising through games and winning with ease. However a place in the county cup semi finals is looming closer, the question is can we go all the way?

Girls Basketball

The Year 7,8 & 9 girls had their District tournaments this term and we had some really good results. Year 7 finished 3rd, year 8 finished 2nd and year 9 were District  Champions. Well done girls!!

Rugby

Year 7 Boys Rugby

A very sublime start to the year 7 boys rugby playing a high amount of rugby games and have only been beaten once by another school. A lot of the boys have never played rugby before they started year 7, but have taken a fast liking and understanding of the sport. Keep up the good work Boys great start!

Year 12 Students Experience Wimbledon First-Hand

Earlier this term, our Year 12 PE and Business students had the exciting opportunity to visit Wimbledon, one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. During the trip, students explored the dynamics of a global sporting brand, examining how commercialisation, sponsorship, and media partnerships operate behind the scenes to support such an iconic tournament.

Our students impressed the Wimbledon staff with their insightful presentations and exemplary behaviour throughout the day. The visit was made even more memorable by a surprise appearance from tennis legend Bjorn Borg, adding an unforgettable highlight to the experience.

Dwain Chambers visits Queens' School

Queens' was delighted to welcome former Olympic sprinter Dwain Chambers, who visited the school alongside Councillor Marc Armon and the Mayor of Hertsmere for a truly memorable and inspiring event.

Speaking to an audience of 300 students, Dwain delivered a powerful and honest talk about the highs and lows of his athletics career. He spoke openly about success, setbacks, resilience and personal growth, offering students a rare insight into the realities of elite sport and the importance of perseverance, accountability and learning from mistakes.

The students were fully engaged throughout, listening attentively and responding thoughtfully, and many left feeling inspired and motivated by Dwain’s message. His openness and authenticity resonated strongly, making the session both impactful and memorable.

A huge thank you to Councillor Marc Armon for making this visit possible, and to Dwain Chambers for generously giving up his time to come and inspire the students at Queens’. It was a fantastic experience and one that will be remembered for a long time.
