BOOK REVIEWS AND CLUB

Students have been reading and entering book reviews all term. Amazingly, we have had over 1000 reviews submitted since September, which is fantastic. The winning form so far is 7TM. Keep up the great reading work!
If you are interested in reading or talking about books, there is a Tuesday Book Club after school in the library from 3.15pm for Key Stage 3 students.

SCHOOL NEWSPAPER

Keep an eye out for the first edition this academic year of our Queens’ newspaper, which we hope to have with you very soon!

VOCABULOUS

Vocabulous is hugely popular with our students and a magnificent way for year 7s to improve their vocabulary. Students have completed a huge number of levels achieving over 10,000 stars. Our winning year 7 form with an amazing 5919 is 7FX! Keep up the great work!

TRULY TERRIFIC THEATRE

On November 17 th , Ms Kinshuck and Mrs Hodgson took our A-Level texts to see a magnificent and original performance of ‘Othello’ at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. It was an amazing opportunity for students to see one of their set texts live. The production starred David Harewood, Toby Jones and Caitlin FitzGerald who delivered mesmeric performances as Othello, Iago and Desdemona. There will, of course, be more exciting trips in the new year.

AMAZING A-LEVEL OPPORTUNITIES

On November 27 th , we promoted our A-Level subjects as part of our Sixth Form Open Evening with the help of some fantastic and articulate current A-Level students. It was a busy, buzzing and brilliant evening showing students the many options they have with the English Department at Sixth Form.

We are particularly pleased to announce that we will be running a Film Studies A-Level next year together with our usual English Literature and Classical Civilisation courses. For more information please see Miss Wood or Miss Grimston.

CREATIVE WRITING OPPORTUNITIES

For those students who love writing, we are also running a creative writing competition this year. The challenge is to create ghost story in the style of traditional Victorian stories such as ‘A Christmas Carol’. Students can be as creative, innovative and original as they would like to be. Please give your entries for Ms Grimston or Mrs Greatrex in the library.

RIGOROUS REVISION

We were incredibly impressed with the year 11’s work ethic and results following the November mock exams. We have now restarted our revision sessions that run every Tuesday at 4pm online. The code is Englishrevision to join these fantastic sessions. If you want to join a group to watch the sessions together, you can come to room 7 at 4pm. If you study Classics GCSE, we also run an in- person revision session in room 7 every Tuesday from 3-4pm.
