PE December 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to the PE Department Newsletter - it's been a busy one so please see what we have been up to!

Girls Football

U12s have kicked off their season with confidence and consistency. They earned an impressive 3rd place finish in the Power League 5-a-side tournament, showcasing great teamwork and determination throughout. The team is also currently competing in the County Cup Plate, where they continue to develop their play and build strong momentum. Keep it up, U12s!

The U13s have enjoyed an outstanding start to their season. They’ve delivered two exceptional performances in district fixtures, including a 5–1 win over Watford Girls and a commanding 13–0 victory over Parmiter’s. Their attacking play, confidence on the ball and strong team cohesion have all shone through, an exciting season lies ahead for this talented squad!

Our U14s continue to perform strongly and have secured their place in Round 3 of the County Cup. The team is now preparing to face Katherine Warrington in what promises to be a competitive and exciting matchup. Best of luck to the U14s as they push forward in the competition!

The U15s have certainly packed a lot into the early part of their season. They claimed a well-deserved 2–1 victory over Parmiter’s in their district match and have battled their way to Round 3 of the National Cup. They finished second in their yearly 5-a-side tournament. The team has also reached the Quarter finals of the County Cup, where they will be playing either St Clement Danes or St Albans High.  A fantastic set of achievements already, well done to the U15s!

Boys Football

Year 8 boys made an excellent start to their first-ever plate competition, beating Marriotts 4–0 thanks to goals from Wassim, Ted, James and Logan. They later followed this up with a hard-fought 2–1 win, with Ted and Leo both on the scoresheet.

The 7B team celebrated their first win of the season with a thrilling 4–3 victory over St Clement Danes. Goals came from Lewis (2), Aaron, and Oscar.

Year 10 Boys Football

The year 10 team had a new manager this year, with Mr Smith replacing Mr Harold.  The boys have had a good start to this year, with excellent wins against Parmiters (3-1), Kings Langley (1-0) and Clement Danes (3-0).  Even in their 2 losses this year they were the better team (and that is not a bias Queens’ teacher view!).  Samuel and Kai at the back have been outstanding, whilst Joss has shown that he has an eye for a goal, scoring a hatrick against Clement Danes.  They have reached the quarter final of the county cup, and looking to progress.

Basketball

Year 11 Basketball

The Year 11 boys Basketball team have continually shown this year that they are capable of holding their own against anybody, including teams that are nationally ranked.  Good wins against Chauncy and St Columbus in the National Cup has shown the quality they are capable of.    Due to the popularity of basketball in year 11 they are the only year to have a second team representing the school.  They start their season on the 16th December, where they will play against other schools ‘A’ teams.   Matteo has led the team extremely well, with Xavier showing a range of scoring shots in every game averaging over 25 points.

Year 7 Basketball

Year 7 basketball has yet to commence their competitive season, but with over 30 each week at training on a Wednesday, and training on a Monday and Tuesday. Their commitment to training  has been really good, with the team starting their season after Christmas.

Netball

It has been a packed and successful period for our netball teams across the school.  Our Year 7s put on an excellent display in their fixture against RMS, earning one win and one loss across their matches. The girls showed fantastic resilience and determination throughout. Congratulations to the Year 8 team for their impressive 9–6 victory this week. A brilliant team performance from start to finish! A huge well done to our Year 11 netballers who secured a confident win against Parmiter’s. Their hard work and teamwork shone through on court.

Rugby

A Huge congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Rugby Team, who took part in the Fullerians Festival, many playing their first ever competitive rugby fixtures. The boys were outstanding throughout the tournament, winning all their games and finishing unbeaten. A superb debut for a promising group of players!

Cross Country

Our cross-country runners have continued to impress with outstanding performances across all age groups. The Year 8/9 boys secured 1st place overall in their race—an excellent collective effort from all runners. The Year 7 boys also excelled in their first competition, with every runner finishing inside the top 15. Their combined results earned them 1st place overall. Special mentions go to Seb, who won the Year 7 race, his first ever competitive run for Queens’. James, who finished an impressive 3rd place in the combined Year 8/9 race.

Activity Week

Our Year 9 and year 8 students embraced the spirit of Activity Week by taking part in Goalball, an inclusive sport designed for visually impaired athletes. The session was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate minority and disability sports while strengthening teamwork and encouraging students to try something new.
Alongside Goalball, students also explored sitting volleyball, short tennis, table tennis, and even had a taste of Gaelic football, all of which added variety and excitement to the week’s activities.

PE Facilities Update

A big thank you to Edufund for their generous grant, which has allowed the PE Department to purchase a new weights bench and a curve treadmill. These additions will make a valuable contribution to strength and conditioning opportunities for students across all year groups.
