Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Department for Education to help schools improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

Pupil Premium funding is provided for eligible pupils, including those who are currently eligible, or have been eligible during the previous six years, for Targeted Free School Meals (FSM). Funding is also provided in respect of children who are looked after by a local authority and children who were previously looked after.

From September 2026, eligibility for Free School Meals has been expanded. It is important to note that pupils who qualify only through the new Expanded Free School Meals category do not automatically attract Pupil Premium funding.

To close the disadvantage gap by addressing inequalities and raising the attainment and progress of disadvantaged students.

Our aim

At Queens’ School, we believe that a young person’s success should not be determined by their social or economic circumstances.

We aim to:

• raise the attainment and progress of students eligible for Pupil Premium funding so that their outcomes compare favourably with their peers;
• reduce gaps in attainment and progress between disadvantaged students and their peers;
• address inequalities in opportunity;
• ensure students from disadvantaged backgrounds have full access to the curriculum;
• ensure financial circumstances are not a barrier to participation in extra-curricular activities and wider school opportunities.
