Houses December 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to the Queens' Houses Newsletter

A Term of Spirit, Success, and Solidarity
It has been an incredibly dynamic and eventful term for Franklin House. From the sports pitches to
the debating podiums, our students have shown tremendous character, and while we have faced
stiff competition, the "Franklin Spirit" remains stronger than ever.

Sporting Resilience
We roared out of the gate this term, securing fantastic 1st place finishes in Year 7 Boys Basketball,
Year 11 Boys Football, and Year 11 Girls Netball. It was a dominant start that set a high standard for
the year.

As the term progressed, we faced tough opposition, securing hard-fought 3rd place finishes in Year 8 Boys Rugby, Year 8 Girls Netball, Year 11 Boys Basketball, and Year 10 Girls Football, alongside 4th place finishes in Year 9 Girls Football and Year 7 Boys Football.

However, Franklin students never give up; we have recently picked up momentum again with the Year 8 Boys finishing 1st in Basketball. This resilience sets the stage for a strong comeback next term

Charity & Community
One of our proudest moments this term was the democratic selection of our House Charity. With over 300 students voting, we are delighted to announce that Macmillan Cancer Support won by a clear majority. We wasted no time in supporting this cause. Our Halloween Fair stall, featuring the popular game ‘The Wheel of Doom’, was a massive success, raising over £100. We look forward to continuing this success at the upcoming Christmas Fair, where Franklin will be running two exciting stalls: ‘Smack The Elf’ and ‘The Wonder Wheel’. We hope to see many of you there!

House Cup
The race for the House Cup has been a rollercoaster. We were commanding a 20-point lead. However, due to our recent dip in sports results and a surge in performance from Seacole (who are now level with us) and Attenborough, the gap has closed.

When combining competition results with participation points, we currently sit in 3rd place. The
message for the rest of the year is clear: Participation is key. To close the deficit on Attenborough
and Seacole, we need every member of Franklin House attending clubs and getting involved. Every
point counts!

Individual Brilliance

While we value team effort, several individuals have achieved greatness this term. A special congratulations to:

  •  Sasha (11FD): For an impressive victory in the Friday Debate, beating Mr. Brothwood!

  •  Sergio (9FD): Taking 1st Place in the Poetry Competition.

  •  Christina (7FD): Securing 2nd Place in the Poetry Competition.

  •  Teodore (7FX): Being the first student to achieve 250+ STAR Points in Franklin House.

Thank you to all students and parents for your continued support. Let’s rest up over the break and come back ready to reclaim the top spot!

Mr Hurst

Seacole House

It's been a fantastic and busy first term for Seacole House! I'm delighted to share that we have raised over £500 for the Watford General Children’s Ward through our charity raffle organised by our sixth form charity captains: Iona and Gabriella. A huge thank-you to everyone who has bought tickets so far — your generosity is truly appreciated and will make a significant difference to the experience of many children during their time in hospital. The raffle will be drawn on 16 December, we will post to announce our winners on our twitter.

Charity has been a real focus for us this term. The Houses have also been collecting for our local food bank to support our local community. Thank you to all of you who have donated. A special shoutout goes to 8SW and Miss Joshi for their outstanding contribution to our collection.

We had a brilliant time at our Halloween Fair in October, with the unforgettable highlight being our “Guess the Guts” stall, where students bravely reached into jelly and slime to identify the hidden objects — a messy but hilarious success! Looking ahead, we’re very excited for our House Charity Christmas Fair on 16 December. Please come along and support; it promises to be a wonderful event.

I’m incredibly proud to announce that Seacole is also currently topping the leaderboard for the brand new House Cup and holds the highest number of star points — an amazing achievement. Keep up the fantastic work!

Thank you all for your hard work and enthusiasm this term. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and safe, restful break!

Turing House

As we approach the end of the first term, it’s a great moment to celebrate what has been an
excellent start to the year for Turing House. Participation in House Sports has been higher than ever,
and the introduction of the new House Cup has inspired fantastic involvement across faculty
competitions and extracurricular activities. Every student has contributed to this success through
their enthusiasm, commitment, and respect for one another, helping to make this term truly
outstanding.

House Sports
Firstly, a huge well done to all of our students—your participation has for every event so far been
amazing. Thanks to your commitment, we haven’t lost a single point due to lack of involvement! We
have closed the gap to all the other houses and now we are all separated by only four points!
Massive shout outs to year 9 and year 10 girls’ football who both came in 1st in those house events.

Charity Campaigns

This year, we had the Halloween fair where we raised a significant amount for the Pancreatic Cancer UK. I couldn’t be prouder of the dedication shown by our Charity Prefects, as well as our Arts and Charity Representatives. Their creativity and initiative have been the driving force behind our fundraising success.

Final message

I want to express my sincere gratitude to every student who has helped make Turing House such a vital and valued part of Queen’s School this term. Whether through your enthusiasm, active participation, or behind-the-scenes commitment, each of you has contributed to something truly exceptional—and I couldn’t be prouder.

A special thank you goes to my outstanding prefect team. Your dedication, leadership, and unwavering support have been instrumental in delivering meaningful events and opportunities for all our students. You have led with integrity and spirit, and your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas break—you have truly earned it. Rest well, recharge, and come back ready to aim higher, push further, and strive for greatness. Turing House is only getting started!

Attenborough House

It has been a packed Term for Attenborough House with so much going on, from our Sporting competitions to our Charity Fundraising events. All this is running so smoothly due to our wonderful senior and junior leadership teams. I am delighted to announce that our House Charity Committee voted to support Cancer Research UK and Ways to the Nation as our nominated charities for this year. Attenborough has had a great start to the school year with their fundraising events, kicking off the year with our Spooky Halloween Fair - thank you so much to our amazing Mr Patel and Mr Lower for their very competitive Apple Bobbing competition. Mr Patel was the outright winner.  Thank you to my wonderful Sixth Form Team who worked so hard organising the Halloween Fair and all our helpers. We raised a fantastic £300 for our chosen charities. We also raised £29 in donations for Poppy Day.

We are in the midst of planning lots of Christmas festive events to raise money for our charities. We have our joint House Christmas Fair on Tuesday the 16th Dec where we are looking forward to kick starting the festive cheer with sweets and games. On Wednesday our Attenborough Captains are organising a Bracelet making session £2 a bracelet, open to year 7 and 8’s. We are also selling raffle tickets to win a Chocolate Hamper 50p a ticket and £1 for 3 tickets, the raffle will be drawn on Thursday 18th Dec, good luck to everyone that enters.

Our Attenborough Year 7 Forms have been challenged with the Dragons Apprentice £5 Challenge to see if they can grow the £5 through their own charity fundraising events. I wonder which Form will raise the most money and what exciting charity events they will come up with.

Queens' Houuses are once again collecting donations for Watford Food bank. We hope you will join us in supporting such a worthy cause. Donations of canned and dried food can be dropped off at the North and South Receptions between the 2nd and 15th of December.

Sports

It has been a busy term with Sporting competitions and amazing to see so many full teams turn up for the events. Just neeed to work a bit harder Attenborough to get those wins back and try and reclaim the Robert Brown Trophy. At the moment we are in third place, next year we have lots more House competitions still to come!
