Welcome to the Humanities December 2025 Newsletter

House Cup Competitions
  • Year 7 & 8: To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, year 7 and 8 are challenged to make a short film (no more than 5 minutes) explaining what the theme for this year means to them.  The theme for this year is ‘Bridging generations’.  All  entries should be submitted to Mrs Charlton by 10th January via email

  • Year 8: Our students are diving deep into Earth science in Geography! They’re exploring the fascinating world of plate tectonics and the structure of our planet. As part of their learning, they’ve been challenged to create a model of the Earth that showcases its four distinct layers — from the crust all the way to the inner core. Students can choose to bring their ideas to life in 3D or illustrate their model on paper — creativity is encouraged! Submission days have been communicated per class on ClassCharts.

Around the faculty

University of Sussex:

Year 12 Geographers had an incredible time at the University of Sussex, where they explored geopolitics through the world of The Avengers! Miss Thorn and Mrs Silvain were so impressed by the thoughtful ideas and critical thinking shown by our students. A huge thank you to the Student Ambassadors for an inspiring campus tour — who knows, we might have some future International Relations experts in the making!

Learning in the classroom in Geography:

From exploring real-life deciduous woodland adaptations in our outdoor classroom to competing in a lively game of Superpowers Top Trumps, our students have had a busy and exciting half term! We’ve delved into fascinating topics such as Extreme Weather, Plate Tectonics, and Globalisation — to name just a few. It’s been wonderful to welcome our Year 11s back to lessons following their mock exams, and we wish Year 13 the very best as they prepare for theirs after Christmas.

Parliament Week:

Mr Brothwood led assemblies to mark National Parliament Week. The theme of the assembly was changed as the product of struggle. This was a great opportunity for our students to learn more about our system of politics and how they can participate.

Remembrance Week:

Miss Keene led assemblies to mark Remembrance Week.  Students had the opportunity to remember those who fought for our country and to understand the importance of remembrance.

Coming up….

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and a very happy new year!  See you in 2026!
