Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers
It has been immensely pleasing to welcome all students back to Queens’ following the summer holidays. I would like to extend a particular warm welcome to our new Year 7 and 12 students and their families who have been absolutely fantastic.
We were extremely proud of the successes of our students at GCSE and A Level this summer and their outcomes were richly deserved.
At A Level, 37% of grades were A*/A, up 10% on the previous year. 70% of grades were A*/B.
At GCSE, 82% of students achieved a 9-4 in English and Maths, a standard pass and 67% a strong pass.
Overall, at both key stages, our best results to date and significantly above national figures.
Over the summer, extensive work was undertaken to improve the quality of the learning environment. Our fantastic Estates Team replaced 1000 old chairs with more ergonomically designed alternatives; Fitted 60 classrooms/offices/corridors with new flooring; Painted throughout the school and installed a new boiler and covered outdoor eating area on North Side. In addition, our amazing IT Department installed a new Wi-Fi network across the whole school.
As we finish the half-term, I would like to acknowledge the commitment, hard work and dedication of the staff who go the extra mile to give students a broad and enriching learning experience. Our staff, teachers and support alike are truly wonderful. Please join me in thanking them directly using the National Thank a Teacher initiative.
We sadly say goodbye to Ms Anderson, Mr Nicholas and Ms Kilroy, three of our support staff who are moving on to pastures new. We wish them every success in their new adventures.
I would also like to thank our amazing Queens’ Parents Association for their ongoing support of the school. Students have benefitted enormously from their fantastic fundraising efforts. In the last few years we have benefitted from several outdoor canopies, a new minibus as well as additional resources for all departments. More information on how you can help the QPA raise money for the school can be found HERE. Donations can also occur indirectly through Easyfundraising.
Through the Queens' School Development Fund we are currently raising funds for new outdoor equipment such as TeQ football and outdoor table tennis tables so please consider making regular contributions. More information on how you can donate is on the Queens' School Development Fund page of the school website.
We very much enjoy sharing exciting news on our social media platforms X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads and LinkedIn and warmly encourage all parents/carers to sign up to each account.
Thank you for your continued support and kindness. I do hope you enjoy the October Half-term.

The Watford & Hertsmere School Sports Partnership
The Watford and Hertsmere School Sports Partnership has been hosted by Queens’ School for over 18 years. We are the largest School Sports Partnership within Hertfordshire, of which there are 12. The Partnership consists of 72 Schools in total including Secondary, Primary and Independent Schools. There is a grand total of 31,660 pupils at KS2.
The Partnership delivers Sports Festivals and Competitions for Schools, as part of the National School Games Programme. So far this year we have organised Cross Country Races for Primary Schools with over 1000 participants in total, linking to local Park Runs and also a series of Year 4 Rapid Fire Cricket Tournaments, a very exciting game! In addition to competitions we also provide CPD for primary staff, PE Conferences and Leadership Training. Our Year 5 Activity Ambassadors training gives pupils the skills to support activities within their own schools and especially running KS1 Festivals.
We link and work closely with Queens' PE Department in using the school schools facilities and working with leaders from the school to help officiate and run events.
The state Primary Schools are funded through the Sports Premium which is a national government funding scheme. This funding aims to increase participation in PE, Sport and Physical Activity as well as target specific students and areas of need.
We also offer Bikeability Training to our Schools starting in Nursery and Reception with Balance Bikes. We have already been in to 2 schools since September and trained over 100 children with many more schools looking forward to training later in the academic year. This training also helps us to reach the Active 60 Minute Target of children taking part in 60 minutes of activity per day within and out of school.
