Queens’ Teams Shoot for Victory!

This half term, Queens’ sportsmen and women have yet again triumphed on the playing fields and courts! Teams for all sports have competed excellently, with some particular highlights:

Under 13s Rugby 7s

The Berkhamsted 7’s is the second largest U13 tournament in the country and the traditional curtain- raiser for the National 7’s at Rosslyn Park. 64 of the best schools from England and Wales compete in games lasting 14 minutes. With snow interrupting training, the team had spent most of their 5 training sessions in the sports hall but Mr Smith and Mr Ridgeway were still confident of a good showing. The first game saw Queen’s slowly out of the blocks as they lost 15-5 to Clares Court. In the second fixture against Cwm Rhymni, the team remembered what the 7s game was about and super passing and support saw the team win 30-10, Sean Curran excelling as man of the match. To advance, the team needed to win against St Ambrose and they duly delivered, winning 25-10 with captain Ewan Callaghan and Elliot Shreeves  excelling in defence.

The next 3 games saw the team pitted against some of the top rugby specialist schools in the country: St Joseph’s College (we won 20-15!) Cwamtawe school (we won 30-20!) and a pulsating 15-15 draw against Skinners Grammar school. This meant a final record of Won 4, Drew 1 ,Lost 1 saw the team with the 8th best record from the teams competing. Queens’ Player of the Tournament went to David Flynn for his relentless work rate . The parental support was outstanding and we would like to publically thank them for getting behind the team.
