Dance Course Outline

KS4 Y10/11 Dance

GCSE dance comprises of 3 areas of study:

  • Performance
  • Choreography
  • Appreciation

The exam will take the following format.

  • Practical exam – 20%
  • Practical exam (set study) – 20%
  • Coursework – performance & choreography – 60%.

Throughout the course students will work on various aspects of the above in order to prepare them for the final exam.

KS5 Y12/13 Dance
Module 1 – Solo Choreography & performance This module focuses on the knowledge and skills required to choreograph and perform solo dances.

Module 2 – Analysis & Recording
This module focuses on the candidate’s knowledge and ability to identify, analyse and comment on their own progress in learning to choreograph and perform as a soloist.
Learning is specifically related to work presented to module one.

Module 3 – Understanding Dance
This module focuses on knowledge and understanding arrived at through critical thinking about:

  • dance studio practice
  • the constituent features and forms of dance.
  • one set work (Rush,Akram Khan 2000) its present context and the context from which
    it is derived.
