It has been an exceptionally busy term for our faculty. Many of you will have enjoyed the recent school production, Sister Act. The cast, technical crew and accompanying musicians have worked tirelessly to produce the show. This has included weeks of rehearsals and specialist coaching from the teachers in the drama, music and dance departments. Mrs Leaper-Martin also made a huge contribution providing expert vocal coaching for individual members of the cast. Putting on a school production requires skill, discipline and tenacity and it was wonderful to see so many different students across all year groups having this shared experience. A special mention should go to the lead Tasnim for truly embracing the spirit of ’the show must go on’. She delivered a fantastic performance despite experiencing laryngitis. Congratulations to you all, a great success.
Arts and cultural experiences for students this term have included two A level theatre trips to Exit The King at the National Theatre and Witness For The Prosecution at County Hall. Year 12 art students visited the Tate Modern collection and the Shape of Light photography exhibition. The music department have also taken students to experience the wonderful acoustic of the Royal Festival Hall at a classical concert in London.
The annual Christmas celebration at St Luke’s Church, Watford, featured performances from the music department’s extra-curricular ensembles as well as readings from staff and students. The festive season undoubtedly is a time for reflection and during this event I felt incredibly proud of the talent, effort and spirit of students and staff who contribute all year round to the Creative Arts at Queens’.
Music, art and performance bring a particular joy to a community and the faculty are looking forward to seeing new talent emerge in 2019 as well as students enjoying the value and benefit of studying a Creative Arts subject to a high level.
A very merry Christmas and a happy, creative and industrious New Year to all!
