Assessment

We believe in the importance of positive encouragement and take opportunities to share all students’ successes and achievements, in part through our scheme of merits and certificates of excellence, and Lower and Upper School Presentation evenings.

To ensure that high academic standards are maintained, we assess student attainment and effort in each subject continuously from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form. Together with the annual examinations, our termly assessments give a full and detailed picture of each individual’s progress which we share with parents. Heads of Houses, Head of Sixth and Form Tutors, in consultation with the Senior Leadership Team members are closely involved in monitoring progress. We encourage students to be involved in assessing their own work and setting targets for improvement. This is developed in individual discussions where negotiation between students and teachers takes place.
