To celebrate the European Day of Languages 2018, the MFL department ran a Bake off Competition called ‘THE GREAT QUEENS’ BAKE OFF’. Participants had to bake a cakes/s which had to be either a traditional European dessert, or a cake or cakes decorated with a European theme. A total of 39 cakes were entered and the winning prize went to Kiani in Year 9 Drake and second place went to Yumi in Year 8 Auden. The talent and calibre of the cakes entered were mind- blowing and the talent of these young budding bakers has to be commended. The buzz around the school was amazing; students and staff alike were very excited to see the cakes that were entered. All cakes entered were then sold at lunchtime and all proceeds (£145) went to Cancer Research for Kids and Teens.
To add to this competitive vibe in the MFL Department, a total of 18 students from Year 9 took part in a Language and music industry challenge where students were asked to complete a series of tasks relating to organizing an international music festival. They needed to use their creativity to draw up innovative plans, and work in the foreign language with continental suppliers and to present their ideas to European investors in French, German or Spanish. These students won the competition!
